Objectives.
The
JP Green House was launched in June, 2008 with the purchase of an
abandoned, former neighborhood store in the Bourne neighborhood on the
Jamaica Plain/Roslindale line. Our objectives include:
• meet passivhaus standards, achieving zero (net) carbon emissions in our residence.
• reduce total (gross) carbon emissions for our family below 75% of the US average (per capita).
• move toward self-sufficiency, supplying more than half of our own foodstuffs from our garden, berry patch and fruit and nut trees;
•
open our project and house to interested persons, both on-line and at
the site, throughout planning, construction and residence.
• document expenses, experience and energy use in a transparent manner.
• create space in the old storefront for community and social events and education programs on sustainable living and climate change.
•
augment our children's formal education by attending to character and
moral strength, expose them to practical skills for self-reliance, and
have the most fun which can be had living in the JP Green House.
